Commander Keens Trek 96?

  1. I found this at Salvation army the other day. Sealed in cellophane NIB. When I shook the box I knew that there was a 3.5" floppy in there.

Since I fricken loved Commander Keen as a child, I decided to buy the game. I promptly google'd the title to see if it was worth a bunch before I opened it. Only one forum came up with any info on this, and it linked to a dead ebay auction. Where some asshole was trying(unsuccessfully) to get $100 for the game.

So I got the old computer up and running, unboxed the game, and found a CD:retard:. I tried to run the game, failure. Tried it again with Win95 compatibility, different failure. The problem is that I didn't have VB4.0 runtimes installed. I googled, and found a fix.

The box was completely empty aside from the CD. Nothing, no manual, no ads for other games, nothing.

Now the game works. Too bad it's terrible. Doubly terrible considering that it's from 1997 and looks like it's from 1987. I'm flabbergasted that they would use Commander Keen to try and trick people into buying a game about Star Trek. Whoever made this should kill themselves.

The cover on the box was made in MSPaint for MS Windows 386!

The contents of the disk are immense. I've never seen so many files.

Commander Keen was awesome. I was actually thinking of going as that for Halloween last year.
